Stacy and I visited the Story Inn while vacationing near Brownstown, Indiana. We stopped in for a “date” night dinner and quickly fell in love with the warm atmosphere and incredible cuisine. The restaurant’s ambiance made for a romantic dinner and really set a mood. We knew this was a place we wanted to write about when we started this blogging thing.

Why You Want To Visit

Let’s start with a little bit of history behind the town. Story, Indiana started as village in 1851 and is located in southern Indiana. The quaint town that started as a small settlement village in the mid 1800’s was nearly decimated by the Great Depression. In 1982, Benjamin and Cynthia Shultz began transforming and restoring the town. Today, the tiny town is a remarkably preserved Midwest town overflowing with charm.

Fine Dining

My wife and I had dinner at the Inn while on a vacation “date” and make a point to come back anytime when we visit. The restaurant is quite small, only about 14 tables or so in the room we were sitting in. The low light dining area is highlighted by a beautiful stained glass in the front window and antiques carefully arranged around the room. While the dining is great during the lunch hours, the evening dinner items is where this restaurant really shines. I like great food and this place is one of the best.

Beautiful Gardens

The gardens were in full bloom during our summer visit, complete with colorful blooms, bees, and butterflies. The path leads through a square of flowers and bushes, peppered with antiques and yard art. The path leads through an arbor and continues down to an old barn that’s used for weddings.

Cottages & Accomodations

The Story Inn also offers room and cottage rentals, though we haven’t stayed here yet. For our avid ghost hunters, you may get lucky enough to see the “Blue Lady” during your stay. The “Blue Lady” is an apparition that is said to appear in a room above the general store. You can read more about the ghost in this article.
